HBO recently released an amazing trailer for the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. I’ve seen some analyses of the trailer, and I really wanted to do my own. So now I will.

That Trailer Is Amazing!!!!

I’ve also been wanting to talk about the upcoming season in the context of the books (since I’ve read them all.)

So on this post, I will describe the trailer ENTIRELY SPOILER FREE. I’ll just describe what I see.

(To be clear, when I say SPOILER FREE, I mean in regards to upcoming plots. I assume that if you are watching the trailer and reading my analysis, you’re caught up with the show.)

So, the combatants are lined up, heavily armored and helmeted. To the sound of roars and shouts, stamping feet, horns and whistles and all kinds of noise they crash together. And I have no idea who’s who, or what side I want to win.

Broncos vs. the Seahawks?

But that’s because I don’t follow football all that closely. And my team didn’t make the playoffs.

But on Game of Thrones… I know who’s who.

This post discusses FASHION of all things, in the first three seasons of HBO’s television series Game of Thrones. So I guess there might be plot spoilers below for those seasons if you’re not up on the show. Go away and watch it. All three seasons if necessary. I’ll wait.

Arya Stark might be the most popular of Catelyn and Ned Stark’s kids. She’s great.

The Only Stark Who Wears a Helmet

But bizarre as it sounds, occasionally I hear people complaining about Arya. Oh, they don’t complain about Arya the way they do about Sansa. No one seems to find Arya annoying or her story boring. So why am I defending her? What is there to defend?

(This post will be talking Game of Thrones. Mostly in reference to the television show on HBO, up through Season Three. I’m steering clear of any spoilers for the books, please respect that in the comments.)

HBO’s excellent adaptation of George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones, resumes at the end of March. I am very much looking forward to Season Four.

I occasionally write a Games of Thrones blog post (let’s just call it therapy) and in anticipation of the new season, I’m planning on posting a GoT post every Wednesday until the new season starts. Then I’ll sit back and read the plethora of recaps and reactions, watch YouTube reaction videos, and fret about when Book Six will be published.

Here are the Game of Thrones-centric posts I wrote last year (I had an urge to package them up.)

This post will be discussing plot points from the first three seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones. I won’t be dropping any spoilers from the books, and I ask any commenters to respect that as well. Now, lets talk about Sansa Stark.

Most people who watch HBO’s Game of Thrones like and sympathize with the Starks (unlike one of my colleagues who is all-in with House Lannister.)

But usually that affection is withheld from the eldest Stark daughter, Sansa. People don’t necessarily want her to die (like they do with Theon) but they find her so annoying. Although in some ways this feeling is justified, but in general I don’t like the amount of hate that Sansa generates and I’d like to respectfully state my case in her defense.

It’s January, a new month and a new year, so I went through my social media feeds and grabbed all the MicroStories I tweeted during the month of December from bygone 2013.

As a reminder, these represent story-essences composed in 140 characters (so I could tweet them with the hashtag #MicroStory.)

Relax Larry. I’m not literally defending tempestuous incestuous polygynist child sacrificing wildling playboy Craster. But his relationship with the Night’s Watch has some interesting implications.

This post deals with plot points from the first three seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones. So there will be some spoilers. I won’t be spoiling anything from future plots in the books, and I’d appreciate that spirit be observed in any comments. (I do hope people leave comments!)

I Have No Need of Defending, Southern-Boy! I be a Godly Man!

So why “defense” of Craster? I’ve realized that many of my Game of Thrones commentary posts are in reaction to my buddy Bob’s complaints when watching the show (he hasn’t read the books.)

Last post, I explained that my wife and I had just finished watching Season Three of Breaking Bad. It was great. (The show I mean, not necessarily my post.) The previous post was a (probably unnecessary) recap and this post will be something like an analysis, or my observations, or whatever.

As usual, this post will be spoilery for at least Season Three Breaking Bad, and probably Season One and Two.

No half measures on this show.

This post is talking about Season Three of AMC’s excellent Breaking Bad. Therefore, there will be spoilers for the first three seasons. This is my first time watching, so if you comment, please no Season Four or Five spoilage.

My lovely wife and I continue our Breaking Bad watch. By the time we get into the first half of Season Five, I am hoping that the second half of the season will also be available on Netflix. Otherwise I’ll be feeling as jittery as Wendy with ricin-burgers and no bump.

It’s that wonderful holiday season, and it’s not only Good King Wenceslas who’s in the seasonal mood. Over at the Joffrey of Podcasts podcast, the esteemed Lannister-Loving (Double El) hosts produced an excellent version of the Twelve Days of Christmas, celebrating King Joffrey’s interests, hobbies, and circumstances.

JoffBubba and Catfish were cool enough to let me post the lyrics here. By memory. Hopefully I won’t mess it up, for my sake.
