National Superhero Day – It’s Today and No One Told Me

Well, something must have told me, since I’m writing this blog post.

Me am Miles Manners, reporter.

Today, my Twitter feed was a buzz with it being #NationalSuperheroDay. Right on! If I had realized this earlier, I’d have prepared something more meaningful. So now I’m on notice for next year.

I did some super-quick research and discovered that April 28th as National Superhero Day was first observed by employees from Marvel Comics. (Sorry for having a pic of the Bizarro Superman as a header image, Marvel Comics. But maybe that works as well.)

I won’t delve into any in-depth topic here, but I wanted to call attention to the You Tube channel of Michelle Travis (@samuraiko on Twitter) who is famous (to me at least) from creating amazing video using graphic from the excellent (sadly now-defunct) online video game City of Heroes. There is so much I could say about City of Heroes.

If you ever played the game (even if you picked up City of Villains, you monster, and enjoyed the game that way) or know someone who did, these videos should bring up some nostalgic feelings.

So, enjoy National Superhero Day however you like, honoring these fictional mythic archetypes, or any real world heroes. Give your mom a call, hug your faithful canine sidekick. Whatever. There’s probably no wrong way to do this.

(Next year, I’ll have something planned. Because I do love writing about superheroes.)

Image of Buffy Summers is from the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I make no claim to the images. (Text attributed to Mitch McConnell, thanks Mitch.)

Obviously, I also make no claim to the machinima created by Michelle Travis.

Cool video. I don’t play online games, but I’ve heard of that one. Didn’t they do a last hurrah for their players before going offline? I heard about that somewhere.

    • Yeah, everyone tried to do some special events. There’s a version of the game that exists. You can still create a character, and fly around the environment, chat with people, but no combat or missions or NPC enemies to fight.

  2. Of course it’s National Superhero Day. It’s the day of my birth; what else could it be? 😀
