The only good Balon Greyjoy is a dead Balon Greyjoy.

Okay, this post will be talking about Game of Thrones, HBO’s adaptation of George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. Specifically, I’ll be talking about Balon Greyjoy, the former King of the Iron Islands. I’m kind of glad he’s dead.

Bah!

Whoa! Usually I don’t drop spoilers about characters on Game of Thrones at the very top of the post. Yeah, yeah, I know. But there are some things that are hard to keep quiet about  – and I’ve had to keep quiet about Balon’s demise for a very long time. Hopefully you’ll understand as I explain.

Balon Greyjoy Finally Meets Up with the Drowned God. FINALLY!

Happy Batman Day! I didn’t even know Batman Day was a thing until last year, when it had already passed (but I wrote up a long post about Batman after the fact and promised I’d try to keeping having something timely about the Caped Crusader going forward.)

Straight up, I thought Batman Day was going to happen later this month, so I was surprised when I visited my favorite comic shop this week and discovered that Batman Day, like Batman does, had snuck up on me. But I’d made a promise to write about Batman, so here it is.

This post might seem a bit random and rambly, but so do the ones I plan out months in advance, to be honest.

Who owns the North? The Umbers do, or so they allege.

It’s a Lease-to-Own arrangement!

This post will be talking in general about House Umber, one of the great northern houses in HBO’s Game of Thrones, and specifically about their large and hairy leader, the Smalljon.

He’s been quite a rascal. But I kind of get where he’s coming from.

It’s almost October and I’m eagerly anticipating the second season of Ash vs Evil Dead, the continuing adventures of one-handed chainsaw-wielding Ash Williams as he takes on demonic supernatural forces. At least, he does when they force him to do so by trying to kill him. Otherwise, he’d probably leave them alone, provided he gets to vacation in Jacksonville, Florida.

(This post is going to have some spoilers for Ash vs Evil Dead, so fair warning.)

Hey, people who follow my blog know that once a month I post all the MicroStories that I’d tweeted out during that month. It tends to be science fiction and fantasy related fare because I’m a huge geek. (Allegedly.)

I’ve been pressured by people to release them as an e-book, and I might one day, but at the moment I just like having them available for people to read on the blog.

And as a bonus, here’s a picture of my pug, Chi Chi.

It’s my three year anniversary of writing flash fiction, so I thought I’d just go ahead and collect them all as an example of my formative years of hinting at bigger stories involving demons, witches, wizards, androids, transhumans, posthumans, orcs, elves, magical weapons, princes, spaceships, robots, aliens, and whatever else struck my fancy in under 140 characters.

It’s September, so I went through my social media feeds and grabbed all of the MicroStories I’d tweeted during the month of August.

As a reminder, these represent story-essences composed using no more than 129 characters (so I could tweet them with the hashtag #MicroStory.)

Usually, I only tweet Science Fiction and Fantasy #MicroStories. August was pretty much no exception.

For really great #MicroStory action, please follow @MicroSFF, the Twitter account that inspired me to participate in this minimalist writing exercise. That feed puts out great science fiction and fantasy MicroStories all the time.
