Season Eight of Game of Thrones is just over a year away. And once those episodes are complete, that is it.
I am expecting a fair number of character deaths, so will be earned, some will probably be unfair, but I am hoping that not everyone who deserves death gets it.
I’m rooting for Cersei Lannister to survive.
I won’t make my case here, but the fine folks on the Watchers on the Wall site posted by plea for clemency (of a sort) for the merciless queen recently.
If you are interested in finding out why I think the final season of Game of Thrones would benefit from Cersei not dying, here’s a link to the post:
Cersei Lannister: Bittersweet Expectations
As always, I’m very grateful for everyone who has read my Game of Thrones essays over the years, and have also followed my stuff on Watchers on the Wall.
(Comments are always welcome. Super welcome! But if you want to talk spoilery Game of Thrones talk with me (also welcome) I’d invite you to visit my Safe Spoilers page on my backup blog. That way my non-book-reading friends won’t be shocked with foreknowledge.)

A year sounds so long! Still Westworld soon 🙂
As for Cersei, I don’t think I’d feel forgiving enough for exile and the chance of a new life. Perhaps she could serve the new ruler of the Seven Kingdoms – somebody has to muck out the dragons’ lairs…

Not so much of a chance for a new life, but a chance to keep her unborn child alive. In my hypothetical, I’m imagining Jon Snow being too much like Ned to want that baby dead, so he might give her an out.
Which would cause everyone else on Team Stark-Targaryen to freak out.
(I am pretty sure Cersei is dead meat, but I have to make my oddball speculations. One never knows when one gets lucky.)

Hmmm… I wouldn’t want the child to suffer and agree Jon might take the kinder route. But perhaps the child could be kept safe and Cersei still get what she deserved. I’m sure she’d hate seeing her child raised as a Targaryen, taught to hate the entire history of the Lannisters for instance. But who knows? Speculation is always fun!

You are right, of course. I considered the possibility of Cersei being kept a prisoner until she gave birth, and then fed to a dragon, with the baby being raised by Jaime and Tyrion or something. I didn’t go that route, because I don’t think the show would take the time to get to Cersei giving birth…
(I could be TOTALLY wrong, of course. Since we don’t even know how many months along her grace is, etc.)
Thank you so much for this feedback, by the way. It’s great to hear your thoughts on this.

I’m like Idris Elba’s Heimdal from the Thor movies, making the Rainbow Bridge work.

Haha! We watched Ragnarok the other day and I’d totally forgotten he played the character in previous movies!! Don’t think he was really on my radar until we got into Luther (which was very late).

I can’t believe their making us wait this log, but with all this time you can guarantee it will end with a bang and I am not ready for the heart break that entails…

I know! It’s so long to wait. And when the show is over, for me there will be the wait for the last book(s) to be published in the series.
I am curious what the HBO spinoffs plan to be.
Thank you for dropping by!
