Daenerys Targaryen and the Defense of the Realm

Up on the Watchers on the Wall website, I recently posted a feature discussing Daenerys Targaryen, and how her invasion of Westeros might not be the best thing for the defense of the Seven Kingdoms in the looming war against the White Walkers.

No, I’m not currently being paid by the Cersei Lannister administration to build a case against the Mother of Dragons.

Am I crazy to assert this? I don’t know if I can give a credible answer to that question, but you can judge for yourself if my assessments of Daenerys and the realm’s defense are on track.

Hope everyone is enjoying the new season of Game of Thrones. We only have two more episodes. And then our watch has ended. (For like a year or something…)

Yeah… Daenerys just wants to be queen. It’s her way or no way, so it’s not surprising she will wreck avoc.

You got your article posted on a GoT community, cool! 🙂

I think you’re spot on. Of course, Dany doesn’t realize that any of these supernatural threats are real. She’s humoring Jon Snow at the moment, but may change course after he convinces her.

And on a side note, I’m not sure if I was more baffled or impressed by Tarly stubbornness. Being personally more inclined to fly whatever flag keeps me alive while signing up with the Resistance, their loyalty upon facing certain, immediate death seemed a pointless exercise… kind of a, “Hey, over here! I plan to undermine you at every turn unless you take me out immediately!”

Hard for me to respect that strategy, though I feel like I’m supposed to.

    • Thank you!

I also thought Tarly was a bit too hell-bent to burn. And I think he would have made a good hostage for Dany, really.

Tarly was sort of a casualty of efficiency in storytelling. 🤔

I thought Khalisee was going to follow the steps of Aegon VI, aka Young Griff, conquering the stormlands and going on, since she is reluctand to burn´em all. The logic of the series is such a disapointment, I think they are rushing everything and the product is not up to what GoT is all about, and its becoming more of a fan service kind of show.

Still can wait for “dominGoT (or sunday, or whatever day a leaked episode comes up) to watch the show.

    • The show really forgot the Stormlands ever since Season 2. It would have made sense for Dany to stage there, since it connects to her initial allies, Dorne and the Reach, as well as King’s Landing.

Fan service… now now, don’t be that way. We’ve always known the show was going to have to end, and converge storylines, which will have to deliver at least some things that we want as fans. But I agree that the pace is way way fast.

      I’m a big fan of DominGo(T) – that’s a proper adaptation of Sunday. Nice!

I think you should be writing alternative scripts for the show! They do make me laugh 😂
