June 2017 #MicroStory Collection

It’s July, so I went through my social media feeds and grabbed all of the MicroStories I’d tweeted during the month of June.

As a reminder, these represent story-essences composed using no more than 129 characters (so I could tweet them with the hashtag #MicroStory.)

Usually, I only tweet Science Fiction and Fantasy #MicroStories. June was pretty much no exception. (Some of them seem less obvious as Sci Fi/Fantasy. Your mileage may vary.)

For really great #MicroStory action, please follow @MicroSFF, the Twitter account that inspired me to participate in this minimalist writing exercise. That feed puts out great science fiction and fantasy MicroStories all the time.

(I want to make it clear that @MicroSFF is *not* a Twitter account of mine. Their flash-fiction tweets are excellent. Mine are okay.)

“What’s wrong?”
“Oh, I have a headache. Old people get them.”
“Will I get them one day?”
“No. ‘Old-style’ people get them.”

“Sir, we’re taking a poll of prospective voters. Which candidate is your robot advising you to vote for?”
#MicroStory

Do I really need all of these peasants? – thought the king.
Do we really need *this* king? – thought the peasants.

“Did you see the finale last night?”
“No, my DVR didn’t find it emotionally satisfying. I’ll skip the binge watch on that.”
#MicroStory

Industry analysts suspected that fuel efficiency and performance were directly related to a self-driving car’s morale.

Where have you been? We’ve been worried sick!
/Just driving with friends, it’s no big deal/
Go park yourself in the garage!

The ability to view other dimensions was immediately exploited by college students wanting to plagiarize novel term papers.

“For my birthday, mom got me a better breathalyzer.”
#MicroStory

Oh. There’s my husband.
– Should I duck out through the kitchen?
No no – I went to the face salon today. He won’t recognize me.

“Did you change your personal time zone again?”
“I did. Be cool, man.”
“Look, just write your monthly summary. It’s not hard.”

Thank you to everyone who reads and enjoys my small stories. I tweet flash-fiction at irregular intervals on my Twitter account, @patman23. At more regular intervals on Twitter, I’ll be talking about my dogs, or television (mostly Game of Thrones), or mowing my lawn.

Want to read my earlier MicroStory collections? I have my first three years’ worth of stories HERE

Header image was taken by my wife, of her favorite photography models, Chi Chi the Pug and Peanut the Three-Legged Puggle. Awww.

In general, I’m fine with anyone using the text of my MicroStories for non-commercial use. (Look how cute I am, thinking someone wants to make a t-shirt from one of my flash fiction bits. I say cute, but you can substitute in some other, more appropriate, adjective. I’m not the boss of you.)

Whoa, I need to credit the one-and-only (maybe, I haven’t checked if she has clones) Rachel Stern (@rachel_stern on Twitter – be one of her followers before she becomes super Internet famous) for the inspiration of the breathalyzer microstory.

  1. Peasants and term papers! The peasants one reminds me of the V for Vendetta quote “Governments should be afraid of their people.” The turnaround is…not so nice.

I would totally plagiarizer one of my selves from a different universe. I have some pretty good ideas in this one…though there would have to be a universe where I had terrible ideas, though again, it’s possible that what’s thought to be a terrible idea in THAT universe could be brilliant in this one and vice versa. What my many selves think is mundane could be magical elsewhere.

I’ll stop mucking up your comments now :p

I do enjoy reading these! Love the first one but also really like the ones that seem to fit the theme of sentient machines. I’m glad you’re looking out for their welfare 😉
