Closing Out 2015, Heading Into 2016

This has happened before. This will happen again.

The year is nearly over, so at some point I’ll look at how my blog performed in 2015 (I don’t think I’m using the word “performed” correctly, but when has improper language usage stopped me?)

For the second year in a row, I hit my blogging goal of putting out a Game of Thrones-related post every week before the new season started up, and every two weeks after the season ended. (Except in rare instances, I don’t blog about Game of Thrones during the season. I’m too busy reading everyone else’s recaps.)

TullySigil

I just finished up my last Game of Thrones post for 2015, and next Wednesday (#WesterosWednesday) I’ll be kicking off the start of my weekly articles before Season 6 starts up.

The fact the newΒ season is starting at the end of April instead of the beginning means I have to come up with ~3 more show-related topics to write about. *Shakes fist*

Hopefully the delay in the show’s airing is because The Winds of Winter is secretly scheduled to be released early April, to give the book readers a chance to remain ahead of the show for one more season. Mostly.

I did more movie reviews this year (I think I did…) but I didn’t manage to have a Pug Film Festival event like last year. I’ll try harder in 2016.

Was this taken in 1977? Or 2015?

Speaking of movies, I’m planning on writing a series of posts in 2016 about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Yes, I know everyone on the planet has already written something about the return to the Star Wars universe.

Despite it being a heavily covered topic, I’ll still give my review and I’ll wax nostalgic about when I saw the original Star WarsΒ and I’ll be rambly and talk and talk. The time is ripe for thinking about the movie and where the new trilogy might go.

There’s been some valid criticism of the movie that can be explored. And some amazingly stupid criticisms to be mocked.

Hopefully I’ll be entertaining.

2015 was a very fulfilling year for me in regards to my blog. I’ve made new friends and acquaintances, had great interactions, and gotten enough praise for my #MicroStories that I feel like I’m one step closer to writing something more #Macro. (We’ll see.)

Here’s hoping that everyone has a Happy New Year.

ImagesΒ totally are property of my wife, Lisa Sponaugle, and my daughter Grace Sponaugle.

Lisa took the photo of our dogs Peanut and Chi Chi, and she took the photo of the House Tully sigil that she had colored – there’s a funny story about my getting a Game of Thrones coloring book for Christmas from my daughter (who planned on stealing it for herself) but my wife got to it first.

Grace took the photo of the theater marquee, when we took her to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Should anyone wish to use the photos, attribution would be nice. (As in, please don’t just take those photos willy-nilly. Like I did. I should really get their permission before I post their photos. I guess I’m just rebel scum.)

Coincidentally, I was just reading tweets about the Star Wars Spoilers, which is so much fun πŸ™‚
I ain’t a big fan of that series (actually, I don’t know anything about it, to be honest) but enjoyed the movie. And its always fun to read your GoT posts. Hope we get the next book soon! (fingers crossed)

    • That is fun! I’m glad you enjoyed the movie, especially since you didn’t know about things like why the Millennium Falcon was such an awesome ship, and so on.

I have my fingers crossed as well. Possibly my toes too. Ouch.

Your GoT posts are always super informative, so I’m looking forward to one a week. I’ve read the books once each, so I’m not really familiar with some of the more complex history and family trees. I also skip most of the Bran chapters. I still believe Winds of Winter will be out in early 2016.

I got a Harry Potter colouring book for Christmas, which is pretty rad, and the Game of Thrones one looks pretty great as well.

I’ve enjoyed discussing things with you this year, thanks for all your insights.

  3. If you could get the pugs to face each other in the dogbed, that would be a cool Yin and Yang image.

Happy New Year (in advance)! You know I’ve very much enjoyed reading your posts and competing with you for six word story fame! Will look forward to the Star Wars breakdown – just finished listening to Slash Film review (which I think was longer than the film itself!) but it’s only the second one I’ve bothered with. So I’ve definitely got room to read yours!
